| Ben France, health & fitness co-ordinator at the centre said; “The facilities have been popular in the past, with the saunas operating seven days a week mostly from 7am until 10pm. After 5 years of this kind of use the saunas definitely needed care and attention as they didn’t look good and the decrease in the number of people using them reflected this. Refurbishment therefore has been a very cost effective solution which we hope will also help to boost membership.
It took Viking just two days to strip out the interior fittings of the old sauna, and completely re-clad the walls and ceiling. New benches and LED lighting were then installed.
“I was very pleased with the speed in which the refurbishment took place as I can be a bit cynical of timescales set by contractors. However, Viking said two days and in fact it was slightly less, so we were back, up and running, really quickly. I was delighted with the result, which to all intents and purposes appears as new, and the feedback has been very positive.
Pam Sadler, managing director of Viking Saunas said: “Organisations cannot afford to let the quality of facilities slip. Sometimes this may not be their fault as, especially with saunas, they may not know what signs of fatigue to look out for.
“Without being dramatic, in the long term saunas can actually become a fire and safety hazard and running efficiencies can be lost. Refurbishment is a very cost effective option and we always provide free, on site surveys, to ascertain whether refurbishment is an option rather than replacement.”
