Viking Saunas & Steam rooms has, quite literally, revitalised the sauna of a prestigious Lancashire hotel, using specialist techniques to create a luxury health club facility for guests and visitors.

The previous old and worn sauna at the Park Hall ‘Vitalia’ club had to be ripped out and replaced with as little disruption to guests as possible.

Wigan-based Viking Saunas removed all benches, heater wall, backrests, and all internal mouldings, leaving just the ceiling and wall boards remaining.

Utilizing bespoke manufacturing capabilities, the sauna interior was then completely refurbished. Wall and ceiling boards were re-clad and insulated, whilst still maintaining the original front windows and glass door.

The fitting of a new ‘behind bench’ heater protection wall was accompanied by fire protection boarding behind, and in front of, the heater.

Old benches were replaced with new Obeche timber benches, solid down-to-the-floor bench supports and readily removable bench fronts for ease of cleaning. Obeche, such as that used by Viking, is the preferred timber for client comfort. The low heat conductivity and knot-free surface mean it is cool against the skin. Angled backrests and new attractive lighting completed the new look sauna.

The complete refurbishment of the sauna took just two days, without the existing walls having to be demolished or re-designed. The result is a luxury facility for half the price of removing the old sauna completely and installing a brand new cabin.
